Birthday Bible Verses
to Show Them You Care

There are several birthday Bible verses that you can write on the inside of a card or post on Facebook or other social media.

Do you have fond memories of birthdays when you were a child?  Is there a specific year that stands out?  Did you have birthday parties?  Did you have cake and ice cream?  Did your mom or dad cook your favorite birthday dinner?  Did you get to open up lots of presents?

Birthdays are a time for being thankful for the blessing of life.  God as our Creator is the source of life.  From the very beginning of the Bible, we are told that “the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being”  (Gen. 2.7).

Later, King David reflected back on his own beginnings and said, “You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb”  (Ps. 139.13).

If you are wishing someone a happy birthday, these birthday Bible verses are a great way to let them know how much they mean to you.

Use these birthday Bible verses to remind them of God’s love and rich blessings.  Can there be a better way to wish someone a happy birthday than to use the very word of God.

Birthday Bible Verse #1:  Philippians 1:3,4

Philippians 1.3,4:  "I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy”

The apostle Paul loved his brethren who were living in the city of Philippi.  As he writes to them, he tells them that every time he remembers them, he does three things.

  1. He gives thanks to God.   "I thank my God upon every remembrance of you"
  2. He prays for them.  "always in every prayer of mine making request for you"
  3. He is filled with joy.  "with joy"

As your loved one is celebrating their birthday, let them know how much you love them by using this birthday Bible verse to tell them how thankful you are for them, how much you pray about them, and how much joy you have because they are in your life.

Birthday Bible Verse #2:  Isaiah 46:4

Isaiah 46.4:  "Even to your old age, I am He, And even to gray hairs I will carry you! I have made, and I will bear; Even I will carry, and will deliver you."

In this context, God is speaking to His people.  There is a comparison being made between the way God treats His people and the way false gods treated the people of other nations.

The other nations who worshiped and served idols learned that their gods were not there for them.  They could not depend on those idols carved out of trees.  Yet God has been there for His people from birth (Isa. 46.3), and is still there even in their old age.

This is a great Bible verse for a birthday because it reminds us not to put our trust in money, celebrities, or other idols.  If you are helping someone celebrate their birthday, remind them to put your trust in God.  Help them remember that from birth to old age, God has always been there for them.

Birthday Bible Verse #3:  Jeremiah 1:5

Jeremiah 1.5:  “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

Did you know that God has a plan for your life?

When did God decide that Jeremiah was going to be a prophet?  Our Birthday Bible verse says that it was before He formed in the womb.  Jeremiah was literally born to be a prophet.  God had a plan for his life.

This is a great verse for a birthday because it reminds us that God has a plan for our lives.  Do you have skills that others do not have?  Can you do things that others cannot do, or at least cannot do as easily?

God has given abilities to each of us  (Rom. 12.6-8).  Every one of us has a choice on whether we develop those abilities and use them to His glory.  Regardless of how we use them, God has a plan and purpose for our lives.

On their birthday, help someone know that God is involved in their lives and has a purpose for their lives.

Birthday Bible Verse #4:  Jeremiah 29:1

Jeremiah 29.1:  "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

It is hard to have a birthday and not think about your future.

This verse says that God thinks about you.  Isn’t that incredible?  If you are someone who has a relationship with God and are living to serve Him, that relationship is personal.  God turns His thoughts toward you.

The things He thinks about in reference to you and your life are thoughts of peace and hope.  He sees your future and plans your days with peace and hope in mind.

As you celebrate the birthday of a loved one, help them to reflect on their life and look forward to the next year and the years to come.  They are years to look forward to with hope.

Birthday Bible Verse #5:  Psalm 118:24

Psalm 118.24:  “This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.”

Something special happened on this day.  Something took place that made this world a better place.  You were born.  It is as if God looked at the world and realized that the world needed you.

This verse reminds us that this day is a gift from God.  We ought to celebrate it.  Have a barbeque.  Get out the cake and ice cream.  Play some games.  Enjoy the people who are around you.  Take time to remember that this is the day that God has made and decide to rejoice and be glad.

If you are celebrating with someone on their birthday, remind them that this is a wonderful day because it is a day that God has given them.

Birthday Bible Verse #6:  Psalm 20:4

Psalm 20.4:  “May He grant you according to your heart’s desire, and fulfill all your purpose.”

This is a great way to express your birthday wishes to that special person!

What is your heart’s desire?  Do you desire to have someone to love in your life?  Do you desire to enjoy a time of peace without conflict or even the ability to be at peace in the midst of hardship?

What is your purpose?  What is your plan?  Do you want to get married?  Do you want to be a better husband, a better wife?  Do you want to become a parent?  Do you want to be a better parent?  Do you want to be more successful in your career?  Do you want to start a business?

To the one who is enjoying their birthday, let them know that whatever it is that their heart desires, you hope that God will grant them.  Whatever plans they have for their future, you hope that God will fulfill them all.

Birthday Bible Verse #7:  Proverbs 9:11

Proverbs 9.11:  “For by me your days will be multiplied, and years of life will be added to you.”

If you put this verse in context, the personal pronoun “me” is in reference to wisdom.  This is wisdom talking.

In the previous verse, wisdom is defined as having a respect for God.  When you and I respect God to the point that we listen to Him and live the way He wants us to live, then we are living wisely.

In reference to living wisely, we are told that our days will be multiplied and years of life will be added to us.  In other words, living the way God wants us to live will extend our lives.

If today is the birthday of someone you love, show them that a long and productive life can be theirs if they have the wisdom to respect God and develop the kind of life that is pleasing to Him.

Birthday Bible Verse #8:  Psalm 90:12

Psalm 90.12:  “So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

How many years will we live?  There are some who will live to be well over a hundred.  There are others who will die at a very young age or even infancy.

If you study this verse in context, you will learn that God has set our lifespan to be about seventy to eighty years  (Ps. 90.10).  If you look at the average lifespan of all the world, you will find that the average is between seventy and eighty years – exactly as God decided it would be.

The idea of counting our days is to give thought to the fact that we have a limited amount of time on this earth.  Realizing that, we learn to live each day to the fullest.

For that special someone who is celebrating their birthday, encourage them to remember that every day is precious, and every passing year is a blessing.  Help them value every moment of their lives and take advantage of every opportunity.

Birthday Bible Verse #9:  John 16:21

John 16.21:  "A woman, when she is in labor, has sorrow because her hour has come; but as soon as she has given birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world."

In this passage, Jesus is discussing His own death and resurrection.  He makes a comment about His departure, but the disciples did not know what He was talking about.  They said, “We do not know what He is saying”  (John 16.18).

Jesus then explained His death and resurrection using the analogy of childbirth.

When a woman is in labor, she is in pain and anguish.  When she gives birth and holds her child in her arms for the first time, she no longer remembers the pain.  Her suffering is replaced with joy.

In the same way, the death of Jesus would cause great sorrow.  But when He was  resurrected, there would be great joy.

In this analogy is a beautiful sentiment.  I cannot imagine how painful it is to give birth.  I can only reflect back on the image of my wife’s face when she gave birth to our son.

After our son was born, they laid him in her arms, and the expression of pain and anguish on her face was transformed into inexpressible joy.

If you want to wish someone a happy birthday, this is a verse that will remind them of the wonderful and inexpressible joy that was felt when he or she was brought into the world.

Birthday Bible Verse #10:  Psalm 139:13,14

Psalm 139.13-16:  “For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb.  I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.  My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.  Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.”

What a beautiful sentiment!  God is with us throughout our lives.  He promises to never leave nor forsake us  (Heb. 13.5,6).  Yet this passage tells us that God was there even before we were born.

God was involved in the development of our bodies.  When we were still unformed in the womb, God formed our fingers and toes.  God developed our respiratory system.  He oversaw our development from conception to birth.

On this special day on which a loved one is celebrating the day of their birth, take the time to remind them to be thankful that it was God who gave them life, and brought them into this world.
